The 1000 Trees Run was a unique event that took place in Poland in November 2021. Organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Poland and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (Norwegian Funds and EEA), the race combined a passion for sport with a commitment to environmental protection. It was a virtual event, allowing participants to choose their own distance, location, time, and method of completing the race. This flexibility made it accessible to everyone, regardless of their running experience.
The 1000 Trees Run was held from November 13 to 21, 2021, and focused on the theme of environmental sustainability and tree planting. Each participant, upon completing their chosen distance, symbolically contributed to planting trees in Poland. The goal was to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of reforestation, with the trees being part of a larger Norwegian initiative promoting environmental sustainability.
The virtual format allowed participants to choose any location—whether running on city streets, through forests, or along quiet country roads—making the event a personal journey for each runner, tailored to their surroundings. The distance was up to the individual, so the race was not about competition but rather about personal commitment and collective action toward a better future.
Although the 1000 Trees Run took place only once, its impact extended beyond the finish line. The event was not about competition but about a shared purpose—caring for the environment. It highlighted how individual actions, no matter how small, can contribute to global change. Even though the race was a one-time event, it left a legacy of awareness and environmental responsibility that continues to inspire.
PS: The virtual nature of the event allowed participants the freedom to run at their own pace, even in challenging weather conditions. It was a reminder that every step matters, and the journey itself is just as important as reaching the finish line.
Additionally, the Norwegian Embassy and the Norwegian Funds have been active in supporting various fundraising races in Szczecin. Every year, they contribute significant amounts to these events, funding not only the 1000 Trees Run but also a series of other races aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging active participation in sports. Their involvement has helped foster a growing community of runners, all united by a common cause and a commitment to sustainability.
